This is my first Greens report for the members newsletter
I promise to keep it brief and hopefully not too boring!!
First of all I would like to thank Baino for all of
his work as the previous Chairman of Greens and congratulations
on his recent marriage.
To business, currently the Greenkeepers are very busy
just trying to keep the grass cut, as we all know at
this time of year the rough can be very punishing (I
suppose it does make us hit the ball straighter!) but
the growth will slow down over the next 2 months and
will become easier to manage.
Mike and his team have endless taks to perform on the
course and our obligation as members is to help them
when we can, if everyone can look for pitchmarks to
repair, litter to put in a bin, bunkers that need some
raking or divots to repair then the Greenkeepers can
spend more time working on the course and we can spend
more time enjoying our golf without the cries of "Who
was last in the bunker?!" or "Look at my lie
in the middle of the fairway!!"
Seriously anything that we as members can do will help.
The Greens Committee is currently planning the winter
work programme, tees projects and heather management
and I will keep you informed of our progress. If anyone
has any suggestions for improvements to the course then
please let me know or use the suggestion book in the
stud bar.
Our course is playing very well now and we have seen
continued improvements on the Greens over the last few
years with more consistency and better playing surfaces,
it is not a secret that more light and air, more airation,
hand mowing and hard work from the Manager and Greenkeepers
are paying dividends (we never grow tired of favourable
comments from other clubs!) and the "Way forward"
will continue.
There will be more maintenance work on the course in
August, Mike will put a notice up with the dates and
nature of the work, maintenance is vital to ensure good
greens for the winter and we hope that there will be
minimal disruption.
Thats it from me for now, have a good golfing summer.
